Customer Question

i just bought a john deere 210 and the old owner replaced the coil wire and new plug. I was mowing with it and it just died. I started it back up went to go full throttle and died again. Waited an hour to restart and when I did it just cranks. I pulled the plug out turned the key and no spark with it on the coil. Is it the points maybe. If so I have looked where is the points cover located.

Optional Information:
Make: John Deere
Model: 210

Already Tried:
put new plug into it and fresh gas.

Doug :

Hello,

Doug :

Yes, that is a battery point ignition system. The point cover is located to the left and below of the air filter housing. It's got two screws.

Doug :

I would replace the point and condenser as long as you are working on it. The condenser can be mounted anywhere along the point wire by the way.

Doug :

The PTO switch will also cut out the spark, so make sure it's making good contact. You can test it with an ohm meter if you have one. It's basically an on/off switch so your readings should show fully open or closed as you operate it.

Doug :

Let me know if you need more help.
