i have a john deere sabre lawn tractor. i can't get the parking brake unstuck.
Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !!
What model Sabre?
Typical brake is a mechanical disc. Follow the brake linkage to the brake just ahead of the right wheel, see if the brake is moving, if nor loosen the two bolts holding the caliper, this should free the brake.
This is a 1642 model.
thanks for your attention to this.
i don't know the model.
it is a 14.5 hp/38" mower
the brake is like a golf cart.
depress it the whole way and it sticks.
i just can't un-stick it.
i've repeatedly depressed it. pushed it all the way down and tried to "pop it" unlocked. no luck.
Yours is a 1438, it has the same brake setup. Go to the brake and loosen the bolts, see if it releases. You may need new brake pads, they wear in a wedge shape and can stick. New pads are nice and flat and do not stick.
this machine is at the bottom of a hill in my back yard. how do you recommend that i get to those bolts back there?
Logistics is not what I do. Sorry.
Rachet wrench with long extension should get you enough reach to loosen the bolts.
I believe it will take a 1/2 inch socket.
