Make: scott riding mower
checked compression zero ,then slightly loosen the rocker arms and have over 100 psi
Hello,do you have a service manual to help set the valves?
CV11-CV12.5-CV13-CV14-CV15-CV16CV430-CV460-CV461-CV462-CV463-CV464-CV465CV490-CV491-CV492-CV493-CV494-CV495-CV460 Command/Pro Vertical Single
Page 134 has some info on cyl head and rockers
it has hydralic lifters
Look over the service manual to see if it helps. It's a free download so you'll have it no matter what.It covers your engine and several others.
it a model cv491s how do i download the manuel
Click on the blue link above: CV
Then save it to your pc.
the manuel was of no help
Ok,let me opt out so someone else can help you.
The model CV491S should have hydraulic lifters. The lifter may not be bleeding off any and causing the valve clearance to be lost. I would pull the lifters out and clean them out good and let them drain out completely and see if that helps.

would it be better to replace them if your suggestion works
I would replace them if once you drain and clean them if the engine runs good. The problem may reoccur if you do not replace them.
