Customer Question

I have a fairly new lawnmower that wouldnt start yesterday.
Put oil, whole container into lawnmower. 10-30 W per the manual guidelines. It Started immediatly then began to spit white smoke and black oil out and clearly wasnt running smooth/

There is gas in it, no choke. And otherwise sounds normal. Should I clean the air filter? Do I need to clean it all out? What should I do?

Tim K :

Hello, welcome to Just Answers. My name is XXX, XXX I would like to help you with your question

Tim K :

Is this a push mower?

Tim K :

and by whole container, do you mean a whole quart of oil?

Tim K :

I am thinking that you may have just overfilled the oil.
Check your dipstick, as it take a very small amount, even a tick over the full mark on a lot of push mowers will make it smoke
just on the underside of the full mark should be where it is at.

Customer :

yes push mower..yes whole quart

Customer :

Ok I will check this and get back to you today. Thank you...anything else you can think of. If it is too full, how do I correct it

Tim K :

I would say you have it a bit overful. a lot of them only take 3/4 of a quart. if it is overfull, you can tip it with the oil fill down, and carburetor up, to drain out the excess.

Tim K :

if you didtnt run it very long, your plug and filter are probably fine.

Tim K :

if you ran it for a little bit, you may want to change the plug

Customer :

Ok..thanks..i will be back to you later

Tim K :

ok. have a great day!
