Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! The gap between the coils and fly wheel should be .010in.

curtis b :

The book calls for .008 to .012in.

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

Would coil packs cut off spark to the spark plugs?

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

main problem is no spark to plugs.

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

reconfirming that no spark to plugs is the main problem.

curtis b :

Coils can go bad, but usually not two at same time. Check the kill wire that connects the tow coils, by unhooking it and checking for spark.

curtis b :

Two, not tow, sorry.

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

ok,

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

Do coil packs require an ignition power source?

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

Seems like this engine does not have a power source connected to it.

curtis b :

No, the magnet in the flywheel and the coil is all it takes.

JACUSTOMER-9yl9952d- :

Thank you for the information, have a gr8 day!

curtis b :

The kill circuit is the only thing that can cause coils not to fire. If kill wire is grounded, no spark. Sometimes the key switch can cause problem. That is why you need to remove the kill wire to test.

Thank you.
