I broke the starter cord on my Tecumseh HSK 600 engine, which is equipped with a recoil starter. How do I replace the cord so that it will recoil? I have a new cord and have the plastic cowling off and the recoil housing off.

I apparently have something else wrong. I can't get the thing to wind up tight even though I have been turning it and turning it. Larry

You need to disassemble it and check the spring. More than likely you will find the tab at the end broken off. Sorry for the delay

I can't find a screw or anything else to loosen it. Does the top of the small wheel just pry off?
