I have a Honda HRM215HXA mower. This year when I started it, it started with 2-3 pulls and ran fine for about 20 minutes, then the engine started to oscillate in speed. I had to put the speed control handle in the choke position to get it to run at a constant speed. Now it won't run at any speed setting except choke position. When set to fast it stops. It will not hardly run when I engage the clutch, 1 out of 2 times dying. I have changed the plug and put new gas in it. What do you suggest?Gary

HI
This speed surging is due to some trash or water in the carburetor. The ONLY sure cure is to remove the carburetor, disassemble it and SOAK IT OVERNINGHT IN NAPA COMMERCIAL carb cleaner then reassemble it with a carb kit from the local dealer. while soaking it drain and flush the gas tank and make sure your fuel supply can is clean and has fresh gas. The way to help alleviate this problem in the future, use STABIL in the gas and run the mower every month or less for 15 minutes to keep gas flowing through the carburetor. Now is a good time to change oil also thanks

We don't have a local Honda dealer (I bought the mower in another city before moving). How can I identify the carburetor to order a carb kit online and is there any place you would recomend? Also is there any particular parts I need to watch when dissembling the carb. Would you be able to send an exploded view of the carb?
Sorry,I do not have an exploded view,be sure to DIAGRAM THE LINKAGE AND INTERNAL PARTS SO REASSEMBLY GOES WELL. Most any good small engine dealer should have a kit of easy access to one locally. They are a popular item. GETTING THE LINKAGE RIGHT FOR GOVERNOR ETC. IS CRITICAL THUS DIAGRAM IT AS DISASSEMBLING. I still do it when I see an unfamiliar engine. THANKS
How do I identify the carburetor, or are all the kits universal?
I'm sorry Gary, brain freeze on ly part.....engine model number id's the carb kit. If you want one onlinbe, you can look at www.searspartsdirect.com or jacks small engines. I do think the most expedicious way is a local shop though. thanks

I pulled the carburetor off and disassembled the float and float pin(?). Do I need to worry about the nylon assemble that the float pin rides in when I put the carb body in the carb cleaner, as it looks to be a press fit in the carb body? Do I need to worry about the nylon linkage connectors? What parts are typical in the carb kit?
Gary
I think not,the bushings and "seat" are pretty tough stuff and should not be effected.
what all should I disassemble in the carb body?
Remove the bowl, remove the needle and seat (if you can hook it ,I use a staple shaped like a hook) ,this will be sufficient,no need to remove the butterfly and shaft etc. This is not a real big deal, the good soak is the real key here. If you think to swish it around every now and then that is good too
