Have craftsman riding mower model# XXXXX when key is turned starter engages for 2 to 3 seconds and stops, first thought replace battery, did that same problem, need help?
assuming you are fairly handy, take a short jumper wire and jump from the battery side of the solenoid to the small terminal on top, if the starter works properly, look at the ignition switch being bad.....if not, take regular jumper cables and go from battery side of the solenoid to the starter cable side of the solenoid, if the starter works properly, replace the solenoid, last take the same jumper cable and go from the battery side of the solenoid to the starter terminal, if the starter FAILS to work properly, replace the starter.
