I have a 2 hp B & S on my edger. When I pull the rope it will

I have a 2 hp B & S on my edger. When I pull the rope it will not return
on its self. I can manually crank it back by the pulley on the other side.
The rewind spring is o.k. because when i take the unit off the engine, it
recoils automaticially.
What is my problem

If you're rewind starter works correctly when removed from the engine, then most likely your starter clutch is malfunctioning. Here's the replacement:

You can get it from any local Briggs dealer as well. Sometimes you can remove the screws and pop off the black cover and clean it without even needing to replace it.
