For best performance, it's as tight as you can get it. A dollar bill folded in half works great. The book adjustment is .010"
You can't adjust a Briggs coil so that it won't fire. The advantage to having it tight is that it advances the spark a little resulting in a little better performance at operating speed. If it's not firing, you have a different problem. Thanks, PK.
