I had found this diagram on my own already- where does the ground connect and does it matter which red(both are red) connect to which side of the solenoid. The diagram does not show. One red goes to the battery, the other to the starter.

It does not matter which side is hooked to which. It will work the same either way. One goes on each post and then the small wire from the key switch goes on the small terminal.

where does the ground wire go?

It can attach to any clean ground on the tractor frame. You can attach it right where the solenoid mounts at.
