i have a 5hp briggs and stratton engine that has no spark.

i have a 5hp briggs and stratton engine that has no spark. i have tried changing the plug but still no spark. what should the gap be between the flywheel and coil pickup

OK,

 

The next thing that you need to do is remove the small wire that plugs in on the bottom of the coil and then check for spark. If you have spark with this wire unhooked, then you have a short to ground on that wire, if you still have no spark, then the ignition coil is bad and will need to be replaced. Provide the model numbers off of the engine and I can get you the part number.
