Customer Question

I have a Tecumseh 6hp engine that will only start with starting fluid. It won't idle and at high speed it spews gasoline out the air intake. What's up?

Hi After it starts with the starting fluid does it idle like it should ? What all have you tried on it to fix it ?

Customer replied 1572 days and 8 hours ago.

No - when I let go of the throttle it just dies. I took the carb off and cleaned it what I thought was well with spray cleaner. The engine has set for a couple of years without being run. I cleaned the gas tank too.

When it stop running and you pull the plug is it wet with gas ?

Customer replied 1572 days and 8 hours ago.

I just went out and checked. That's what took so long. It's a new plug and no, it isn't wet with gas. It seemed like it tried to idle a little, but still died.

Ok after not running for 2 year the carb should be rebuilt and I would get the compression checked first .
