I have a Coleman 5500 generator. After about 20,30 min or even 2 hours later ,the engine just stops. One pull starts it back up. Its not overloaded from voltage and I have checked fuel filter and lines from tank to carberator and also the float. Where should I go from here? I am getting no sleep and Ike may be here next week
HiCustomer
Check the oil level and make sure it is to the full level and a bit more to be sure. These units have a low oil shut off. If the oil is just at the full mark they can sometimes trigger the shut off because all the oil is being used an not enough is in the oil pan.
Additionally it could be a fuel cap that is not allowing enough air into the tank to replace the used fuel. This will cause the system to starve for fuel at diffrent time intervals according to the amount of fuel in the tank. More fuel = Shorter run times. Less fuel = longer run times.
If when it stops, you can open the gas cap, and get a WHOOSH of air going into the fuel tank that is your problem.
Check these things out and if tey dont solve the problem let me know.
