I bought a reasonablly priced upright Hoover Vacuum cleaner

This answer was rated:

I bought a reasonablly priced upright Hoover Vacuum cleaner from Kmart last year. It worked very well until the last six months. There is no suction with the bottom of the vacuum but lots of suction with the hose. It is very hard on the back to use just the hose and the attachments. Please help me. Thanks, Cindy
Remove the bottom roller and clean out the intake tube where the dirt goes up the tube to the bag. You can use an air compressor or compressed air to clean it out.

I don't have an air compresspr or compressed air to clean it out. What do I do instead?

Use something to pull out any debris in the tube.

The belt was broken when I took the roller off so I have to get one of
those today. There was nothing in the hole inside after the roller was
taken off though. The belt must've broken the last time it was used.
We've been using the hose and attachments but the main part of the vacuum
hasn't worked for a long time. If we used the hose and the suction was
good, the belt had to be okay then, right?

Not necessarily it could have been a weaker suction than normal.
