Customer Question

We have a Kenmore dehumidifier Model #50701. Have had good operation for 2 years in basement. At auto speed and 60% humidity rating, the unit is making a higher frequency and louder noise at high speed. And the air out the back is warmer as well as the top surface and water. But air coming out the front is still cool. Is this a problem with any of the sealed system components? Please advise

Appliance Tech-Care :

I will be glad to help you with your question today.

Appliance Tech-Care :

If the air is coming out cooler, then I would think that the sealed system is operating properly.
If you had a problem with the sealed system you would begin to have a problem with it drawing water.
I think the problem is within the fan motor. The bearings are probably starting to dry up. They are sealed motors and there is no adequate way to re-oil them. You can try adding some light weight sewing machine oil to the shaft, but that is only a stop gap measure. There are on the way out and eventually the fan will stop. The cost of the fan motor normally run around 70 so unless you were going ot try replacing it yourself, it becomes a money issue to have a tech do it.
