Just got a used alternator put on. Now the engine is reving

Just got a used alternator put on. Now the engine is reving up when I start it and wont stop. Engine light is now on,and car jumps foward when put into drive.
JA: Has your vehicled stalled? Has anyone run a diagnostic test to pull the trouble code?
Customer: I was told I neede a new alternator yesterday, and had a used one put on.
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2003 Saturn L200
JA: Are you fixing your L200 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Boyfriend had a friend put on used alternator just before having these problems.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
