I have a 2004 Saturn ion at a mechanic shop. The car won't

Customer Question

I have a 2004 Saturn ion at a mechanic shop. The car won't start but makes a clicking sound. Has new battery and alternator. I had the recall fixed for the ignition switch. The mechanic can't figure it out but says it's electrical.

what is the source of the clicking?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
We don't know. At first the car engine would make noise but not turn over and now when we turn the key it makes a single click.

do you think its coming from the starter?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Possibly. The starter was replaced a couple years ago. The fuse box was checked and it's fine. I'm thinking maybe the passlock system messed it up. I've read a lot of other people had the same problem with the car not atarting

passlock wont allow it to click...sounds like a starter verify power to the starter when this happens

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Ok I'll tell the mechanic to check it

did he verify power to the starter?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
he says it's not the problem..
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
He said he thinks he needs to trace all the wires. The fuses are good.
Expert:  john -aka eauto replied 5 months ago.

all the wires to what?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
All the wires from the engine.
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
He said he checked the alternator, battery, and starter and all is good.. Do you recommend I just take it to a different mechanic?
Expert:  john -aka eauto replied 5 months ago.

sounds like over kill why wouldn't he check the starter and ignition switch circuit?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Ok I will tell him. If he doesn't do it I'll take the car somewhere else and tell them what you said
Expert:  john -aka eauto replied 5 months ago.

any luck

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
No not yet

He said it's definitely not the starter so he bought a new ignition switch and is gonna put it in today and try it. He did think it's in theft mode but I only have 1 key and it's a new one the GMC place gave me when I took it in for a recall about a year ago.

keep me updated..

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Hey, ok he called yesterday. Wasn't the starter, ignition switch or anything he couldn't find the problem. He is almost 100% sure that my car is in theft mode, something with the passlock system. What should I do now seeing as my car still won't start?
Expert:  john -aka eauto replied 4 months ago.

any pass lock codes? tow it to a gm dealer..sounds like he is guessing

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No sir, no codes. Ok I will be sure to have it towed Monday
