Hi Tim. I assume you have the 6 cylinder engine?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Have you removed the belt tensioner?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Belt is off
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok. What about the tensioner?

Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

The actual belt tensioner needs to be removed for clearance.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. Its supposed to be able to come out from underneath. The alternator is just laying on thehalf shaft now, but there is not enough clearance
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
To come out from above?
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

According to saturn's procedure, the belt tensioner needs to come out and it comes out the top

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i guess the 4 cylinder one comes out from under????
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Looking at the procedure for the 4 cylinder, they don't specify whether it comes out the top or bottom.

Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Does it look like it will make it out the top if you remove the tensioner?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
K thanx. Apparently the youtube video is full of shit. Whoever designed this clusterf needs to be shot.

LOL I totally know what you mean. I constantly have busted up knuckles and cut up arms from working on these machines. Take a look at the truck, and let me know if the tensioner removal will make this job happen. I will leave this question open until I hear back from you. Let me know. Thanks!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Nope. Air box is off, tensioner off, timing belt and pulley in the way
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok. unfortunately that's all the information I have. I was Looking at another procedure, and it specifies to remove it from the bottom, so one says top, another says bottom. It does however say to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Have you done that, and would that allow it to come out the bottom toward the front? Or is it still too tight for removal?

Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

were you able to get it out the bottom by turning the wheel hard right?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. Had to unbolt shackle on sway bar and rock it out of the way; then it comes right out from the bottom.
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

the end link was in the way? That's not bad. Glad you got it taken care of. Wish the procedures gave that detail. They usually don't give us all the details. Just the main ones. The minor additions are left for us to figure out in the shop sometimes. Good job. Sorry I wasn't more helpful.

No worries. Definitely a learning experience.
