Saturn Ion: Battery light came on. All electronics stopped

Customer Question

Battery light came on. All electronics stopped working. I continued to drive car for appox. 40 miles on battery alone before car finally stopped. Changed the alternater (new from autozone) and replaced the belt. Now car electonics work sporaticly. Check engine light on and I am getting a code of TCM problems and high voltage issues. Also power steering does not work until after the car has been running a while and battery seems a little swollen and a bit of acid coming out of it. I changed the TCM and replaced with another battery both used not new. Still getting the same codes. Could the alternator be bad or cause the electrical issues.

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved. It sounds like new alternator is the problem, causing battery to over charge. I would just replace alternator with a different brand, this isn't the first time I've seen a aftermarket alternator cause this problem. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions, thanks.
