Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved. Based on symptom it sounds like you have a failed fuel pump. You can try to see if it runs on starting fluid during no start condition, if so replace the fuel pump. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions, thanks.

I will let my mechanics know but this has been happening on and off for a year. Wouldn't the pump have died by now?

The fuel pump can slowly get worse. To know for sure you would want to do a fuel pressure test to verify pressure is lower during no start condition. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions, thanks.
