I have a 98 Saturn SL2 that runs great until it comes up to temperature, then it shuts off, the motor turns over but not firing. Tac doesn't function while trying to re-start. Once it cools down it'll start & run until it comes back up to temp.

likely its a failed crank sensor.... Its easiest to diagnose with a good scan tool ... but your symptoms all point that way

how bad of a backyard job is that to do/where is the crank sensor

not 2 bad

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is located on the back of the engine block, below intake manifold.
