I just removed the CV Axle, and the replacement part has a spindle that goes into the transmission. The old CV axle goes over the spindle; it does not go into the transmission. I need to remove the part that goes into the transmission. How do I remove it?
Hello and thank you for trusting me with your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will do my best to help you with your Saturn problem. Is it the passenger side cv axle that you are working on?
No the driver's side.
Thank you for the additional information. Are you referring to the cup that is installed on the output shaft of the transmission, seen in image below behind where snap ring goes?
I need to remove the output shaft. Right where that picture is.
Not sure you have the correct replacement axle then. The shaft on the drivers side of the transmission cannot be removed. It stays in the transmission. On the passenger side, there is a stub shaft that goes into the transmission that can be removed with a slide hammer and special attachment (see picture below). The parts store may have given you the incorrect side axle. If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask! I double checked with the parts place and they said its the right part. Do you know if they changed the design mid-year?
I am unaware of any design changes to the part. The service manual would normally provide both sets of replacement instructions if there were design changes and there is only one set of instructions. You may want to try getting the part from another store to see if they come up with a different part.
Ok. I had to really grill the guys at the part store and they finally looked and realized I had to swap the outer shell that goes over that output post from the transmission. I really appretiate your help in finding out that part doesn't come out. Thank you.
