My 2003 Ion has started making a clunking sound in the steering wheel base when I turnright - not every time I turn but often enough to concern me. I can't get it checked out tonight - there's no one available where I have my car serviced. I had planned on taking a short trip tomorrow - would I be in danger?

Hello and good evening. A very common problem on these cars is the bushings in the lower control arms seperate from the control arm and caus the arm to rub against the subframe. To confirm look at the arm through the wheel well and see if it is laying against the frame. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have and only rate me when you are 100% satisfied.Your JA Expert,Ivan
Ivan,
Thank you. XXXXX need to know if I am ok to safely drive the car until Monday when I can get it looked at. Also I would like to know if this will be an expensive repair to fix this problem.

If the control arm bushing is the cause you are indeed safe. As far as cost, the arms are available and you may be looking for an expense that costs around $400 or so including a wheel alignment. I would recommend having someone just jack the car up and shake the wheel to make sure there is no obvious looseness. That is just a secondary precaution for your safety.
