Saturn ION-2: I just did a tune up on my daughters 2006 Ion

This answer was rated:

I just did a tune up on my daughter's 2006 Ion 2.2L - New ICM, Coil, Boots and Plugs. It runs fine, but the check engine light is on.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

Hello, I'm Cam. Please include all the details about your issue so I can accurately advise you. I cannot see your vehicle so please be detailed.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

Have you had a chance to get the codes? The light is on for one of many reasons, possibly a fuel cap issue.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

Most parts stores will scan these codes for free.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

with out a code reader or scan tool, we cannot get the codes.

Customer:

I do not. I'll have to do that, then. It was misfiring, so I did the tune up. It no longer misfires, and I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the light would go off.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

It may only need a reset.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

ARe you near a parts store then?

Gm Tech (Cam) :

we can reset it but I would like to see the code before we make it go .

Customer:

Yes. There is an Advance AP store near my house.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

OK, can you leave the page open and go get them to scan then return with the code?

Customer:

Yes.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

OK, I will wait here.

Customer:

Thanks.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

no problem .

Customer:

P0300, P0449

Gm Tech (Cam) :

Ok so the misfire may be history now, but the P0449 is a code for the evap vent solenoid at the back, specifically the circuit. If the solenoid is open electronically then it sets this code.

Customer:

Not sure what that is. Is that a serious issue?

Gm Tech (Cam) :

No, not at all, but it may stop an emissions test if you need one.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

So lets try reseting the light.

Gm Tech (Cam) :

Take the battery cables off the battery, hold the ends together for 10 seconds then attach them to the battery and see what happens. This will reset the whole vehicle.
If you have 2 batteries, then remove both and touch only one set.

Customer:

That worked. Thanks. I will get the evap ven solenoid checked as soon as I can.
I appreciate the help.
