my 2002 saturn l300 (v6) has a noticable fuel odor on the passenger side. I haven't noticed any leakage. I have a service engine light on and assume that its a related issue. I have replaced the fuel cap with no changes. I attempted to smog the vehicle and was told that there is a fuel system leak. The tech stated that the leak is coming from the top of the tank. I'm wondering if that means it has to be the tank itself or if it could be located somewhere else (lines fuel filter) Ive also been told that it could be the vent hoses as well since the smell gets stronger in the trunk area.

More then likely its the fuel pump. I have had allot of these cars with the fuel pump pipe that breaks at the top of the fuel pump. You would have to remove the fuel tank to replace the pump for this repair.
There are no recalls for this concern. The repair can be made at any shop if you can not perform the repair yourself. The price depends on which shop you go to so you may want to call around for the best price.
