Saturn vue I hearing a funny creaking noise any time I turn

Customer Question

I hearing a funny creaking noise any time I turn right. I have a 2005 Saturn Vue. I think it might be in my steering.

15yearsaturnguy :

Hello and thank you for your post. I am a master certified GM tech, with 15 years Saturn experience, and can help you to resolve your issue.

15yearsaturnguy :

most often this is caused by a binding stabalizer link.

15yearsaturnguy :

these are notorious for going bad.

15yearsaturnguy :

if you turn the steering all the way o the right and reach in the left wheel well and grab the link and twist it, if it doesn't twist easily then that is the offending item.

15yearsaturnguy :

it may still be the cause if it does twist because it gets "loaded" heavily when you turn in motion so at a stop it isn't loaded nearly as much.

15yearsaturnguy :

other items that can cause this...

15yearsaturnguy :

lower ball joing binding (rare)

15yearsaturnguy :

steering shaft rubber boot (usually only in winter)

15yearsaturnguy :

strut mounts(usually over speed bumps)

15yearsaturnguy :

hope this helps.

Is this dangerous to be driving?
Expert:  15yearsaturnguy replied 6 years ago.
no not usually.
if it is the ball joint, that can break but that is very rare indeed.
I wouldn't worry about it but get it fixed as soon as you can
