Customer Question

01 9-5 I only have defrost air. Code 8 and 21. Removed both left and right blend doors motors and stepper motor. Linkage move freely but no mater what position I put the doors in it remains on defrost
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact code? And have you tried to reset it?
Customer: I have tried to reset it. I have a code 8 and 21
JA: What is the model/year of your Saab?
Customer: 2001 9 5, 4 cyl
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: yes, I have removed all three motors (1 drivers side and 2 pass) and manually moved all 3 doors trying to get it off defrost. I also confirmed all motors move when put under diagnostics
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: I know the code 8 is from bro***** *****nkage on drivers blend door

Hi Im David, have you tried reclibrating all the actuators?

Hello and welcome to Justanswer!

If the mode door actuator works when moving the controls and you've found that airflow doesn't change when removing the actuator and moving the linkage by hand then the problem would have to be in the heater box. You have to have a broken door or something physically blocking the door from moving. This would require dash and heater box removal and heater box disassembly to diagnose further.
