Battery light and blank light next to it lit up in my '85 900 turbo. Shortly after i noticed that i saw that my engine temp gauge was pointed straight to the top. Immediately after I noticed the temp, the top radiator hose exploded. After the blowout noticed that my Heater and Power steering weren't working. Pulled the car over, let it cool down then drove it to parts house (5 minutes). Replaced the blown hose and refilled coolant, but when i drove home (7 more min) noticed that the coolant was being forced out of the reservoir. Let engine cool, then started again and noticed that the lower belt was delayed in starting and there is a strange clicking noise when it begins to run. Seems related, but i don't know what functions the lower belt is responsible for.
Hi,how are you?The noise that you are hearing and the reason that the belt is starting slower is that during the overheat the water pump was damaged .The water pump most likely melted inside and is trying to seize up now, this would also force the coolant out of the reservoir due to the pump not spinning properly. This could have happened both ways, the water pump could have failed first causing the overheat and then the hose blew or the hose blew and melted the water pump. The water pump would need to be replaced in order to have the vehicle operate properly.

Thanks for the info, I had suspected the water pump, but the issue with the power steering and heater kinda threw me. The water pump is affecting the belt which is, in turn, affecting the steering and heater? Or do you think those are separate issues?
I believe the water pump is causing a chain reaction and is the source of the issue and after it is repaired your other symptoms will be fixed as well.
