Never run the generator IF you are connected to shore power. It can do serious damage to the genset or the automatic transfer switch. The disconnect solenoid is usually by the house batteries and can usually be found by listening for the distinctive "click" that it makes when you hit the switch for it. I am adding a link for that which has a photo and a source for buying one. Check Amazon and E-Bay a well if you end up needing one. It has one or two fuses on there that may be bad and keep it from functioning properly, so check those first and you can check the operation with small digital multimeter.
