Hi my name is Robert....
Make sure the main tank has more then 1/4 of fuel, the reason being is the pick up tube is set that way so you do not run the main engine out of fuel.
IF that is good then I would replace the fuel filter on the generator and then I might try and hook up an external can on the ground and see if it will run from the can. Sometimes the fuel lines from the generator to tank can crack or if you had a loose connection point, once that happens the generator can suck air and cause it to shut down...
