I'm a little confused, Do you have a Jake brake (exhaust brake) Or do you have a retarder. They are two completly two differant things that do the same job. Thanks forr coming to Just Answers. Jim!!!
Jake breaks I gather. It has a on off switch on the dash that also says retarder. The options from the manufacturer say jake.
Ok if you have a jake brake and you turn on the swith, when you leave off on the fuel pedal it actuates the the compression brake (jacobs brake) you should turn off the jake brake in the rain or slippery conditions, such as rain snow or icy conditions. If you need more information I'll be here. Jim!!!
I/E you could loose control of the vehicle as the rear wheels will slow causinge you to loose steering contol. Jim!!!
Do you know where I could get a book on the issue of jake brakes. I have a cat diesel 7.2..
