Onan generator mounted in a 2000 Bounder 34' motor home. Trying to start from the dashboard or at the unit. Just cranks with no sign of life. Removed an checked spark plug, looks good, not fouled, getting spark.
Optional Information: Year: 2000 Make (other): Fleetwood Bounder Model: Onan Marquis 5500 Already Tried: Pulled spark plug, attached spark detector, cranked engine. Everything looks good.
Thank you for using Just Answer, I will quickly, and methodicly work through your repair needs.......Thank you.........Michael, hi First test we want to do is ck carb .......take the aircleaner off,,,,,,and squirt carb cleaner into it,,,,,see if it will start,,,,,,,,,also disconnect the fuel line from the carb and see if there is fuel getting to the carb......let me know thanks....................
Removed the air cleaner and it looks good. Pulled the gas line off at the fuel filter, there is no sign of gas. I tried cranking and no gas came out. The fuel line at that point is a bit higher than the gas tank. Is there a pump at or near the gas tank?
No extra pump other than the one on the gen.............Fuel pick up is down 1/3 the way in the fuel thank,,,,,,,,,,,,do you have more fuel in the tank than that? this is so you wont run yourself out of gas running gen..........take the fuel line off of the generators fuel pump and see if there is fuel there..................thanks.............if you spray carb cleaner into the carb,,,,,,,you can make sure it runs....................
Fuel gauge reads just above 1/2. That is probably the problem. It has been just siting here for over a year.
with that reading it should pick up............1/3 from the bottom of the tank,,,,,,,,another consideration is that the rubber lines after time crack and allow air in, ck the fuel line to the gas tank from the gen......................
