Customer Question

I have a 1988 Fleetwood Motor Home/ Pace Arrow with a Ford 460 enginel. It is obviosly not new and I bought it as is. The body is in good condition and the engine ran good for a short test drive. I drove away but did not get too far as the engine just stopped running as if it ran out of gas. I had plenty of gas and the battery had plenty of power to turn over the engine but would not start. I waited a while say ? 15-30 minutes and it started up and ran fine. I drove a number of miles (15-20) and it did the same thing. I got it in an RV park and want to look it over. Frist thing I wanted to do is change the fuel filter. Where is it? I looked through the manuel I got with it and no luck there. I crawl under the RV and find the fuel tank. I follow the fuel line to the engine and when I get towards the engine it gets a little difficult to follow. I looked all around the engine. Where is the fuel filter? I appreciate your help!!!

Optional Information:
Year: 1988
Make: Ford
Make (other): Fleetwood

I am still waiting for an answer. I have looked and looked all around the drive train and engine to fine the fuel filter with no such luck. It is kind of hard to belive that something that simple is so hard to find. I had a guy at a auto parts department tell me to look around the fuel tank. I did that with no such luck. I do not want to use luck. I wish I had a diagram of the chassy or engine to help. I would appreciate any help you can provide. I am not sure if there is such a thing as a Chilton/or other manuel with this information. I also realize it is an older vehicle. Thank You!!!

Sorry for your trouble. I think you have a F53 chassis. I'm not 100% on an 88 but the later 460 had fuel injection is yours Fuel injected?Dads Mechanic41115.0948208333

http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/1988-ford-f53/fuel-filter/.. this should be your fuel filter. I have found them most often found them tucked in the frame around the drivers seat area. Jim!!! I have found that they have another problem with this chassis with fuel injection. The fuel pump relay heats up and fails. Jim!!!

I found the fuel filter and changed it. Thanks!!!
Now I am ready to change or check the fuel pumps. Where are they.

I believe one is on the fuel tank that you have to drop to get to and I can

see on the engine top a devise that the fuel line runs through which has wires going to it. I can see this "devise" with wires going to it and fuel line going through it goes to the carbureter. It looks more like a sensor than a fuel pump. Seeing all this gives me the impression the the fuel pump is electric. I would like to check these things before I try to start it up and not get too far down the road to have it stop running again. I appreciate your help and advise. Thanks again!!!

looks like this is the pump, you have described.....autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQFordQQF53QQBoschQQFuel_PumpQQ19881989QQBS69100.html?apwcid=productads-apwidenEjw17-apwidcnaDRyE.... I have also read that the fuel pump relay has been some problem. Jim!!! Thanks for using Just Answers.
