I have an gasoline powered Onan Emerald III Genset in a 1989 Pace Arrow Motorhome. Model No. 6.5NHEFA26100D - Ser No. F880128553 - Options 8223 7497. Using both the remote start button in the cab and the start button on the unit gets the generator to fire and start up good, but when I release the start buttons... the unit shuts off in about 30 seconds.
Already Tried: Oil is level is good, and the RV has a half tank of gas in it. Tried starting it numerous times with same result.
Hello!Thank you for choosing Just Answer for the solution to your problem. My name is XXXX, XXX I am going to assist you with this.
Please, please, please, read this entire post very carefully.
I know it is a bit windy, but please bear with me.
Just Answer has just done a major revamping of its software, and made a lot of changes. They still have a few bugs to work out.
Please hold off on rating me until we are finished – which may take several back and forths.
A genset is a complex machine, and troubleshooting can sometimes become somewhat extended.
Even though it says you are required to rate your expert, you do not have to rate every reply. You need only rate the final outcome. Also bear in mind that the rating is for my personal performance, and not any issues that may arise with the website itself.
Again, you do not have to rate every reply. If there is something you do not understand, or need further clarification on, please use the REPLY button or CONTINUE CONVERSATION button.
Also, depending on which screen you see, leaving me a rating of 1 or 2 stars, or 1 or 2 smiley faces, or “I expected more” or “Helped a little”, actually leaves a negative mark on my record. I try hard to satisfy each and every customer, and I take negative ratings very personally.
If the starts or smiley faces are not there, or if they appear to not be working, please let me know.
Now with that being said, let’s find and fix your problem.
.
Got your reply... will get some carb cleaner and try this tomorrow and let you know what happens. Just to be sure, I filled the gas tank in the vehicle to 3/4 level to eliminate that concern.
Not a problem..
That didn't work... So, I took the gas line off the electronic fuel pump and cranked the generator over and it pumped gas. So, the. I put a new in line fuel filter on... Same status - starts when button is pressed then dies when I release it. I figured I was this far along, so I pulled off the carb to clean the gum and varnish out of it. I need a new gasket and fuel line to put it all back together now. Will get on Monday and see what happens then.Tom
OK, sounds good..
Ok, none of this worked... turned out it was electrical. Regulator was fried and the bushings that the brushes contact was black instead of copper... cleaned bushings replaced regulator and it runs fine... only a $675 fix by the time we put all the carb stuff back together... not the best direction path on this one Hank! Oh, yeah + $18
Well, you never did come back to let me know that it still was not working - you did not give me a chance to finish up.If you will scroll back up, I said it 'sounds' like a fuel deprivation issue - I did not say it was for sure.Typically, when it is an electrical issue, the set will not run for even the 30 seconds - it usually shuts down as soon as you release the start switch. But, again, you did not give me the chance to go that far - you simply started doing things on your own.And for the record, I made nothing on this question, as I never posted an answer,..
In that case, I will not post any evaluation pro or con...
That is fair enough..
Oop's... They did charge my Credit card...1st a dollar and then the $18Gee whiz lesson learned... Last time I'll try on-line assistance!Tom
