Myy Mother has a 1988 Cruisemaster LM RV. when coming back from a camp trip we stopped for gas and when we went to leave again the starter would not turn over when turning the key. It acted as if the battery were completly dead. we goofed around with it some (checking and and removing and replacing the battery cables, trying the switch with it in neutral, park, even drive) then finally on one try it started right up as if there had been no problem. after getting it back to my Mothers place and turning it off again, the same thing would happen. Nothing when turning the switch. Once again acting as if the batteries were completly dead. Is there some sort of neutral switch that may be going out or getting worn to cause a problem as described?
Optional Information: Year: 1988 Make (other): Georgie Boy Model: Cruisemaster LM Engine: Ford Already Tried: shifting back and forth from park to neutral then turning the key.
Hi: Thank you for coming to Just Answer with your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX perhaps I can assist you with this issue.Could be.............but, more likely this is a battery problem or the cables. Did you take the ground lead off at the chassis and clean that? Most places that sell batteries can test them for you. If you take them out for testing be sure that you mark the orientation and mark the cables so you get them back the same way. Otherwise it can be easy to get this wrong. Please get back to me if you need more here and help with testing as all follow ups are included in our fee. No limit as to time or number of responses needed. Positive Feedback in the form of a "smile face" would be greatly appreciated when I have fully addressed all your concerns relating to this issues
yes we cleaned the terminals, could you tell me where i would find the neutral switch box to replace it please?
On the side of the transmission.............if you are referring to the neutral safety switch. A worn key switch can do this as well. If you have a 12 VDC test light or multimeter this is easier to track down. RANDALL41094.979612419
