I have a Dometic Model RM2611 refrigerator. How do I remove and replace the electric heating element?
Hi there!!
Thanks for Choosing Just Answer...
The heating element should be located in the boiler section, which is the cylindrical tube normally found on the right side of this fridge. Follow the 2 black wires from the control board and they will go to the element.Remove the outer sheet metal cover to the boiler and the element should come out vertically. It may be stuck, so a twisting motion will help get it out. No special tools are required but I have seen some that are difficult to remove. It should slide in and out and the insulation and cover hold it all together....
Hope this helps, IF you have more questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.... Robert
You say to remove the outer metal shield. It appears to be round and very tall; however, where the heating element goes into the shield, there is a smaller-type metal shield at that point. Are you saying to remove the smaller one or the larger/outer one? If you are to remove the larger/outer one, how do you do that?
I would try and remove the smaller outer shield, some have clips and you squeeze the burner shield to release the clips, others have tabs you have to bend to free the shield. You just need enough access to get to the element so you can grab it and wiggle it. Click HERE and see if this helps, this is on a 3 way that has the 12 volt heating element also, but some good info..... Robert
I now have the burner tube loose and it lifted up; now my question is... The two electric wires connected to the heater tube that run to the refer board... I have two of the three screws removed that hold the box on but I cannot get to the third screw as it is behind the cover. Does this cover snap off some way without removing the three screws? Can I simply cut the two wires close to the heating element and then re-solder the new heating element wires at that point?
OK
No the screws I do beleive need to come out and I would not solder that if it is the AC heating element that you are replacing. I know what you are going through they make the screws very difficult to access. I would try to get that screw out, that board should have a screw at the top and on each side..... Robert
Thanks so much for your assistance. Very helpful.
