Royale: Dometic..RV..1) when on auto setting, gas heat is intermittant

Resolved Question:

Troubleshooting a Dometic Royale RV Refrig. RM 3663. Several problems: 1) when on auto setting, gas heat is intermittant. May stay on for days and then shut off or more often, only stay on for 1/2 hour to several hours at a time. Get reignite immediately after turing the off at Display Panel and then back on. Thought maybe the thermocouple needs replacement. Then 2) checked out DC operation and discovered the heating element did not operate. I wired heating element directly to 12V and the heater worked fine so element not the problem. Checked voltage @ J1 pin on the power module (where heater hot wire connects) and got intermittant voltage ranging from 13V to 3V without the heater hot wire connected and zero volts when heater hot wire connected. This leads me to think Power Module the problem and not the Thermocouple. What do you think may be the problem? Jon Hoefer

Hi, Jon...........thanks for coming to Just Answer with your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX perhaps I can assist you with this. It does sound like the control board may be bad and you can take it off and into a shop to be tested. Be sure and mark the wires so you know where they went. If you need a new one I would go with a P-711 board by Dinosaur Electronics as they are far superior to the OEM boards and have a terrific warranty should you ever need it. Go HERE for a Service Manual for this which you may find very helpful. I would print it out or Bookmark it for future reference. Don't forget to have the LP pressure at the regulator checked at least once a year to insure proper operation on LP mode. Low LP pressure can dramatically affect the cooling when the flame isn't up to specs. Keep the flue clean and burner free of cobwebs. Hope this gets you going again. R.J.
