I have a 1993 ford e350 motorhome. I have no running lights I had them when i first got it hooked up trailer to it had running lights for trailer everything. Got back to use it again i have no running lights. I have brake lights, turn signals. i turn the lights on and i have headlights and turn lamps but no running lights. I have checked all fuses under driver and in the engine compartment. Is there a relay or something I am overlooking. It has to be in the truck somewhere. Any suggestions
1993 Ford fourwinds dutch 460 Already Tried: checked all fuses inside/engine compartment nothing blown wiggled wires under brake pedal/under hood
This is a puzzle, I like puzzles. I suggest after hearing everything you have already don that you get a simple 12vdc probe tester and lets start from the beginning. With a stick or probe tester go to the headlight switch directly. Can you get to your headlight switch? If so check there for power to the running light circuit. You should have power coming into the switch and when you pull it out only one click you should have power going to the running lights. If not, that is it, the switch is bad. If you have power to the running lights at that point then go back and with the tester check all the fuses again. If they are all good go to the outside of the firewall where the wires come out and look for your running light wire there (I don't know the color but it may be brown) test it and go on from there. With this method you will fined where the power stops and that will show the problem.
If all fuses are good and there is no running lights I do believe you will fined it at the light switch itself. If the coach manufacturer has put in a separate running light switch from the headlight switch then obviously that is the switch to check.
Good lick, I know you will fine it. Thanks for using Just Answer and me, Tony C.
Hey Tony I tried a new headlight switch so i eliminated that In the chassis book i got with rv says that when adding aux marker lamps tap into the wiring connector provided on the left hand fender apron This circuit is controlled by the headlamp switch through a relay to handle aux marker lamp loads. So in saying that to me says that the aux lamps are hooked up to a relay somewhere on the front apron. Would there be some relay up front somewhere? I put 12v power to the taillight to see if i could get power to the running lights. I lit up everything accept the roof clearance lights in front. I am puzzled i need to find where the aux lights hook up to the chassis. Any suggestions
Hi again, well what I read into that is that is a circuit for you to use if adding marker or clearance lights, not necessarily where the factory marker lights are wired. However, it is very possible they put the marker lights through a relay. If so we will need to fine that relay. Is it possible to fallow the tap on the fender apron and see where it goes? Also look under the dash at the headlight switch and see if you can see where they taped in to get the trigger wire for the relay. Lastly look under the dash for a relay; it should look like a 1" square with 5 wire posts on one edge. I would think it is a standard relay like a Potter/Brumfield or Bosh. Should look like this.
Good luck, Tony C.
