I am a retired Financial Planner who does tax work. I have a client whose legal husband has dementia, is in a facility, and they are separated. His affairs have been taken over by the public guardian who are making demands for 50% of all the assets, those that are joint and those that are solely in her name. Her current lawyer to whom she has paid substantial sum for over a year is insisting that she settle things on this basis and not go to court. I have advised her to seek at least a second opinion before going to court in early December. Is there a lawyer within a reasonable distance from Vernon who has extensive experience dealing with public guardian situation? Can you recommend someone she can see. Please reply [email protected] Thank you.
Seeking expert testimony is a sign of strength. A personal relationship with a caring professional is proven clinically effective.

Dear friend,

These are probably the best in Vernon.

I need to know whether or not the lawyer or law firm recommended by you has in depth knowledge and experience dealing the situations involving a matter being handled by the provincial public guardian service taking over the affairs of a spouse who has dementia.

Dear Norm,

Both of these outstanding firms have a great breadth of experience. This question can best be answered by a simple phone call to them on Monday morning, There are a number of attorneys in each office and there should be several who can answer this question, as dementia is a feature of Alzheimer's (and other disorders) and should be a fairly common issue in guardianship cases.

Warm regards,

Elliott
