My Magnavox Digital video disc recorder records but when you play back it does alright but then freezes and shows fragments of the program and then starts playing again only to freeze again and then skip. It is almost like the tv when you loose a satalite signal in a storm

Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only... Initially, test the Magnavox by playing store bought/original DVD movie discs and note if problem persists.Offhand, the only easy user doable try (if have not been performed) is to clean the laser lens / optical pickup using a cleaning disc for such purpose as may be viewed HERE.Still, all others would require technical intervention with the unit being opened up for visual inspection, voltage measurements, confirm fault and effect repairs. Should this be the case, are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? Are you familiar with electronic components, have access to / comfortable in the use of a multimeter and perhaps even a soldering iron/hot-air station? Please post back how you would want to approach this and/or should you need additional information. 41094.4963392014
The discs play back on the origional DVD player. So do others. the disc plays OK on the origional before finalizing and after but not on another after finalizing. It seems the finalizing is the problem. It has just started. Will cleaning cure this and could it be a batch of bad discs.
I understand. As posted above, try the cleaning discs. Additionally, your post of bad disc is likewise a strong possibility. Consider another brand/batch and preferably DVD -R discs. Please post back how things turned up and/or should additional information be still needed.41094.8751478819
Forget it.I went to office max and told him my problem and he said what disc are you using? I told him DVD+R. He said how old is your recorder? I said less than a year. He said you are using the wrong disc. You need a DVD-R disc. I changed it and it works fine. It was the disc it needed to be a - instead of a +. That's it. Need nothing else. I expect no charge from you.
