My Samsung DVD-VR375 is VERY SLOW to respond; minutes vs seconds for even simple commands as open, load, play. Samsung Tech svs told me to unplug for 1 min. and re-plug; not fixed. Told me to unplug 1 hr, re-plug & press FFWD & RRWD at the same time till on-screen message to reset to factory settings popped up; nothing happened. Samsung said pay $40 + SH + 1/2 of return SH + be w/o machine 3-4 weeks. Any help please?

Are you still needing help with this?
Yes, I still need help.
This does sound like there is a corruption in the firmware but lets try one thing. Turn off the machine and then with the power cord unplugged push and hold the power button for one minute. Then release and plug it in and see what hppens.
Ok, I'll be back with you in 2 minutes then.
Ok, I'll be back with you in 2 minutes then. Ok I did as you instructed. DVD tray opens within a few seconds as it's supposed to. However, when I press the button again, the tray won't go back in. I applied slight pressure till the tray started moving back in on it's own. However, it keeps flashing OPEN. I tried pressing PLAY but nothing happens except it flashes "OPEN"
Ok thats what I needed to know but really not what I wanted to hear. The problem first off is in fact the firmware of the machine is faulty and would need to be re installed. This will involve a trip back to the makler, but let me warn you up front that based on what I have seen in the past the underlying problem is the motherboard of the recorder is actually at fault and will need to be replaced. If you send this machine to Samsung for the reinstall and they then find it is the motherboard you will be stuck with either getting that done (which will cost a heavy price) or paying the initial fee for nothing. There is no cheap way to fix this and I do want you to know up front what you may get into.
Would I be better off just looking on-line for a new motherboard which my brother could install (he's handy with most electronics), skipping paying the $40 for only a firmware re-install? It will cost me $190 for a brand new machine at the store. (I don't know how much a motherboard would be or how much shipping to and from the mfr via UPS would be.) I need to weigh the possible costs, choosing the least expensive option of course.
That may be a good alternative but you would need your brother to be able to open it up and find out which board they used in yours and see if you can find one. THey used a range of boards and you would need to find the same one. If you can get a board it will likely have the firmware installed and if your brother can put it in for you that my work.
I appreciate your honest opinions. Based on this collective info, I'll see if he can locate a motherboard, otherwise it's off to the store for a new one I think. By the way, could you give me an approximate cost a motherboard might be? Thank you
You are quite welcome it was a pleasure to help. As for cost I would say it will be around $75 and this is only an estimate because I do not know the model of the board but it should be in that area. I hope that help. Good luck. Please do the rating and have a great day.
Since this is the first time I've used this service, should I give a "Good" service rating vs "Excellent" because the device wasn't repairable/correctable with this service (there's no way you could give repair instructions unless I had the actual part already), which is by no means any fault of yours? I mean no disrespect, again I'm new here and not sure what the protocol is.
Perfectly logical question as long as you rate a 3 star or highr I will be compensated for my time.

Hi again. So my brother needs the serial # ? from the motherboard from my machine (I'm supposed to give this to him within the next hour; yikes). However, when I take the cover off I have no idea where to find it. Would you be able to assist? I've attached a pic, if it helps. Thank you.
Try attaching a picture again. It did not come through.
Oops, working on that now (too quick with the send button)
Ok, try this.

That is a good picture. From my view there are 2 numbers that an fit the bill. Up in the top left side of the picture there is a number that starts with a V. THat might be it but just to the right of it there is what looks like a white lbel with some information on it. It is partial;ly covered by another board but check and see if there is another number there. It is going to be one of the two.
Great. It is the long string number.
Great! Thanks again
