I received an ERR..04 code when I tried to play a CD on a Teac CD recorder with turntable/cassette player, model # XXXXX There are no such codes in my troubleshooting section of the operating manual. I would like to know what this code means.
Optional Information: Make: TEAC Model: GF-450K7 Already Tried: I have no idea what to do since I do not have that code in the troubleshooting section of the owner's manual
Hello, I'd like to help you with your problem. When you are satisfied with my answers, please remember to click on accept.
Does your cd drawer open?
When you try to play a disc, before the error comes on the display, do you hear the disc trying to "spin up"?
Yes, my cd drawer does open.
Yes I do hear the disc trying to spin up.
Thank you for the info, that's actually a good sign.
This type of problem is often caused by a contaminated laser lens. You can attempt to clean it by blowing out the disc tray/slot area with a can of compressed air for dusting computers (keep the can upright only so you don't get chemical propellant on the lens).
If this doesn't help, you can try a specialty cleaning disc (Allsop 23321 Ultra Pro Carbon-Edge DVD and CD-Drive Cleaner) which has little brushes that clean the lens more thoroughly.
If neither of these cleaning steps help, then this is more likely a hardware fault, which could include a bad laser emitter or pickup, faulty spindle motor or laser transport, bad d/a converter, etc. Any of these issues would require repair/replacement.

I tried your solution to my the CD player -it didn't work. I'll have to take it in for service. Thank you for trying - I do appreciate your help.
You're welcome. Would you like some help finding a shop in your area? Before taking it in, I will caution you that this type of repair can be expensive, often more than the cost of a new system, so you may want to consider replacing it as an alternative.
I called the company and have received the names of shops that repair this system.
I will replace it if necessary. Thank you again for your help - you did a great job.
You're very welcome, have a great day.Nathan(no need for further response, I just have to have the last reply to close out the question)
