My DVD wont play because it says region error. How do I fix

Did you purchase the Magnavox in the US?

 

How about the DVDs? Are they from the US or did you order them from overseas?

Yes, we purchased the Magnavox in the US in 2007. We have never had a problem until now. I ordered a DVD from MovieMars through Amazon.com. I tried to find out where MovieMars is located and couldn't find out from their storefront. I will look further if you need me to.

Ok, they look to be in the USA. Does the DVD box have a region code on the back or front?

 

Basically, region coding is a way of preventing DVDs from one region being used in another. Blame Hollywood. Here is some more reading for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

 

Your are in Region 1. If the DVD you are trying to play is not from Region 1, it will not play.

There is no region code anywhere. It was made by Magnavox in China and conforms to Canadian ???.

Is there anything else I can do to make it work?

Yes, it is the DVD player that doesn't have a region code on it. It came from Walmart

Yes, I've never had this problem in the 3-4 years we have had this DVD player

Then I can only surmise that you bought a bogus 'gray market' DVD. It is probably form the UK or Hong Kong market and sold online.

I would ask for a refund and send it back.

It is not your player.
