My son's apt building in Salt Lake City had an accidental

Customer Question

My son's apt building in Salt Lake City had an accidental fire last week caused by another tenant cooking. All tenants were forced to leave the building and seek housing at their expense. No reimbursement has been offered. My son does not have renter's insurance. The rental agency has taken no responsibility in helping the renters. They have required professional cleaning of all tenants property at the tenants expense, with a $300 minimum. What rights, if any, does my son have? Thank you.

Good afternoon. I am Loren, a licensed attorney, and I look forward to assisting you.

Is there a written lease? If yes, what does it provide regarding claims by a tenant against the landlord?

Does the who caused the fire have insurance?
