Can an individual use Adverse Possession to claim 5.5 feet

Customer Question

Can an individual use Adverse Possession to claim 5.5 feet of an easement? Must the Adverse Possessor openly physically occupy the easement ? For what time period ? I like my neighbors and am not willing to be hostile... but I am curious as the room on the back of my house encroaches into the easement 5 feet of the 10 foot easement.

Thank you for using JustAnswer.

So what is the easement? Is it actually on your neighbor's land? Is the easement specifically for the room on the back of your house?
