My tenant used 10x the normal amount of water and sewer

Customer Question

My tenant used 10x the normal amount of water and sewer during Jan-Mar 2015. But our lease is written that we, the landlords, pay for water and sewer but this is well beyond normal wear and tear. Can we withhold security deposit to pay for overages?

Good morning. Have you spoken with them and asked what was happening and what they are doing? Have you checked for any type of leak? I am just trying to get an idea of how that is possible unless there was a leak and they failed to inform you.
