is it legal for my wife to file a quit claim deed in california for a property in alaska
Optional Information: State/Country relating to Question: Alaska Already Tried: Not a whole lot,I am curious if it was recorded in California where she was living. I cant find the quit claim she had sent to me here in Alaska
Hello,No, a Quitclaim deed must be filed in the county clerk/land records office in the county in the state where the property is located. You can't record an Alaska deed in CA. The reason is that any transfer must be recorded where the property is located so that it is part of the public record "chain of title" for any subsequent transfer or sale.
