I have permission to stay in an apt overnight to assess it, provided I provide an indemnification letter. QUESTION: Does this letter have to be signed and written by an attorney or if I write and sign it will it suffice. I will state that 1) I will be responsible for any damages due to my negligence.2) I will not hold owner responsible should anything untoward happen to me in the unit. Please advise. TIA.

You can sign and write it yourself. It does not have to be written by an attorney and it would require the signatures of all parties involved in the agreement.
