I'm not sure what type of lawyer to consult. I was scammed into a real estate deal where my name was used to purchase a house with a person I later found out was just an equity stripper. The house I purchased has gone into foreclosure, and the person who brokered the deal cashed in all the equity, leaving my name on the mortgage. That person has gone out of business and is being investigated by the FBI. I do not reside in the house that was foreclosed on. I feel so dumb for having been suckered into this deal, but I don't know what steps to take next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Aaide from filing a complaint with the attorney general office, police and keeping up with the FBI investigation, you should have an attorney who handles consumer fraud and tort law, seek to locate this scammer and sue for any damages you incurred. You can find such counsel on www.martindale.com
